We the People

I'm confused. I thought that government worked for the people, not the other way around. Yet I am reading that towns pay historic roads through Rural areas when the residents of the area don't want it paved. They even have to file a law suit to get it stopped. City development means that government does not even hold hearings before agreeing to develop an area, give Huge tax breaks and not take in the residents concerns. Law suits are filed, city looses and rather than go to the people to see what can be compromised or what their ideas are, they file an appeal. The mayor blames the people. Cities are using their eminent domain right to take private property away from private citizens and give it to companies and call it redevelopment. Not for "public" works that benefits everyone, but for jobs. Jobs that are created with tax breaks to get the companies in to creat the jobs. So in orders to get tax dollars form the workers, we give tax breaks to companies to come in and create a job and take someone's home in the process.

WE THE PEOPLE. Not we the government. Abraham Lincoln said "government of the people, by the people for the people". Everyone that is elected to any position of representative government in this country should have to said it and write it 1000 times before every vote. They represent the people, not lobbyist, not business, not themselves. When government represents the people, business will grow, tax revenues will increase and everyone will be better off. When government represents small interests, business before people the only ones that are better off are corporate officers.
